Forget man caves, panic rooms and even wine cellars (although the latter is extremely useful in a lockdown situation), the latest hot property is the home office.

With a large swathe of London now working from home, many professionals are discovering the value of a dedicated place to set up for a day’s work. Behr & Butchoff is delighted to be marketing a number of homes for sale and to let that have purpose built or converted offices.

Although we can’t facilitate physical viewings at the moment, we have beautiful photographs and floorplans to inspire you. We also urge you to get in touch if you would like to register your interest in any property – we’ll be contacting our waiting list with private appointment viewings as soon as restrictions are lifted.

Likewise, if you have a property with a home office that you would like to sell, we anticipate high demand in the near future. We can start preparing the back-office part of your sale now so you’re ready to market as soon as possible, so please get in touch.

For now – and especially for those who have set up at home – we share our advice for achieving the ideal home office under extraordinary circumstances.

  • Choose a spot with natural light

The benefits of natural light are numerous and in the case of home working, a position near a window will help keep your circadian rhythm in sync, as well as provide a source of fresh air and keep your spirits lifted.

  • Re-purpose a spare or under utilised room

If you have a spare bedroom or a dining room that tends to gather dust, these may present the perfect spot to set up a home office. Don’t forget, even a landing or alcove may accommodate a small desk.

  • Position yourself for power and wifi

You’ll need to safely access a source of power to keep everything charged and operating. If you can, locate yourself as close to the broadband hub as possible to ensure the best connection.

  • Tidy away after every day

Paperwork left out at home can provide an unwanted distraction and stop you switching off. While you may not have all your usual filing systems around you, do gather your things together and pop them in a box – especially if you’re working at the dining table.

If you are thinking about selling or letting your home please do contact the team at Behr and Butchoff.
